When driving a stolen vehicle, it might not be the best idea to pass a deputy. A Woodbridge woman discovered this on the eve of Christmas.
On December 24th at approximately 9:50 a.m. Deputy S.C. Martin was on the Jessica Cheney Bridge assisting with an auto accident, previously featured on our Facebook. While doing so, a Nissan Rogue traveling Eastbound would pass through the area. This Rogue happened to be stolen out of Prince William County.
Deputy Martin quickly informed nearby units on the vehicle’s whereabouts. Deputy J.L. Jones was one of these nearby units and observed the vehicle enter the Wawa parking lot, located at 3099 Richmond Highway. As Deputy Jones drove into the parking lot, he would observe the female driver fast walk into the business. As Deputy Jones stayed with the stolen vehicle, he would observe the driver quickly make her way to the back of the business. She would flee out the back of the business where Deputy Martin was waiting with arms wide open. She was detained without incident.
The driver, Ashley Stephenson, 32, was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and driving with a suspended driver’s license. She was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond while the vehicle’s owner was informed of the recovery.
