Pursuit Leads to Arrest of Suspect on Drug and Eluding Charges

Stafford, VA. Deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect on Friday following a pursuit in the area of Ridgecrest Court in Stafford.

On January 26, 2018 at approximately 10:58 p.m., a deputy on patrol in the area of Greenspring Drive observed a gray sedan traveling with no working headlights. Deputy W.C. Betush activated his emergency equipment and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle sped off at a high rate of speed onto Ridgecrest Court where the deputy observed the suspect nearly crash into another vehicle.

Shortly thereafter, the suspect’s vehicle skidded to a halt and the suspect fled on foot. The deputy gave chase and was able to take him into custody after the suspect slipped on a hill in the area of Providence Street.

Deputy L.A. Burgess found white powder and a substance consistent with marijuana in the suspect’s pockets subsequent to arrest. In addition, multiple pills were found in the vehicle. The suspect, identified as Jason Robert Dehn, 35, of Stafford, confirmed the green leafy substance was marijuana.

Dehn told deputies that he fled from law enforcement because his wife and two-year-old child were in the car and they have a protective order against him.

Dehn was transported to Rappahannock Regional Jail and is charged with obstructing justice, possession of marijuana, driving under the influence, possession of controlled substances, eluding police, driving without headlights, abuse and neglect of children, and violation of a protective order.



Suspect Arrested after Deal to Sell iPhone Leads to Attempted Robbery

Stafford, VA. Deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect on Saturday for attempting to rob two individuals at gunpoint who had decided not to purchase a cell phone from the suspect.

On January 28, 2018 at approximately 7:00 p.m., Deputy W.C. Betush responded to a call in the area of Fireberry Blvd. One of the victims told the deputy that he had met with an unknown person to purchase an iPhone 6s Plus. After seeing the phone, the victim decided not to move forward with the purchase and got back into his vehicle.

The suspect followed the victims back to their vehicle and asked, “What else you guys got?” He then began tapping on the driver’s side window with a firearm. When one of the victims attempted to get out of the vehicle, the suspect took off running.

Deputies set up a perimeter and brought in K-9 Steele and the drone team to assist with the investigation. The suspect was located at a nearby residence and taken into custody. After detectives obtained a search warrant, a firearm matching the victim’s description was found inside the house.

William Dion McQueen, Jr., 20, of Stafford, was transported to Rappahannock Regional Jail and incarcerated without bond. He is charged with attempted robbery and display of a firearm in commission of a felony.


Traffic Stop in Stafford Leads to Arrest of Wanted Suspect

Stafford, VA. A suspect wanted on felony charges was arrested on Monday following a traffic stop conducted by deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

On January 29, 2018, Deputy Matthew Flick initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle swerving on Interstate 95 northbound near mile marker 143.1. The driver provided identifying information to the deputy that was later discovered to be false.

The deputy identified the driver as Darryl Maxie Outen, 36, of Chesterfield. The suspect was wanted on three felony charges out of Richmond as well as three felony charges out of Chesterfield. Outen told the deputy he gave false identification to avoid arrest.

During a search of the suspect subsequent to arrest, the deputy discovered a controlled substance. He admitted to law enforcement that the prescription medication did not belong to him.

The suspect was transported to Rappahannock Regional Jail and held without bond. The Richmond and Chesterfield warrants were served and Outen was charged in Stafford with possession of controlled substances, false identity to a law enforcement officer, an identity theft violation, and a traffic lane violation.


Stafford Man Arrested for Lego Return Scam

Stafford, VA. Deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect on Thursday who purchased over $1800 worth of Legos through Walmart’s website and then returned the boxes containing the wrong items to the store. On January 28, 2018, Stafford Deputy A.W. Sypolt responded to a call at the Walmart on Garrisonville Road in Stafford. The loss prevention officer observed on camera a customer returning a large amount of Legos on multiple occasions. He suspected that the individual was obtaining money by false pretenses. The first incident occurred on December 30, 2017. The suspect, identified as Christopher Lee-Edward Taylor, 30, of Stafford, returned several boxes of Legos he had purchased online and that were valued at $593.83. He was reimbursed with a Walmart gift card. During the second incident, which occurred on January 19, 2018, Taylor returned several boxes of Legos he had again purchased online and were valued at $737.04. He was reimbursed with a Walmart gift card. The third incident occurred on January 27, 2018. Taylor purchased $526.45 worth of Legos online and then returned the items to the store. He received reimbursement on his Visa card. Employees later realized the contents of the returned boxes did not match the description on the boxes. The deputy discovered that Lego sets matching the descriptions of the ones Taylor purchased online and returned were found for sale online under the suspect’s eBay account. The description portion of the items listed for sale on eBay said “No Box.” On February 1, 2018, Taylor was taken into custody and then released on an $8000.00 unsecured bond. He was served three felony warrants of obtaining money by false pretenses.

Juvenile Detained For Assaulting Stafford Bus Driver

Stafford, VA. Deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office detained a juvenile on Thursday for assaulting a bus driver. On February 1, 2018 at approximately 4:41 p.m., Stafford deputies responded to a call regarding a fight in progress involving a bus driver in the area of Streamview Drive. Upon arrival, deputies observed the bus driver bleeding from the forehead. The driver was examined by medics and released. The driver told deputies he was a substitute driver and that an individual attempting to pick up one of the students from the bus was not on the list of people he could release the student to. The driver said he’d need to call the school to confirm he could release the student to the subject. In response, the subject got on the bus and began assaulting the bus driver. An altercation between the subject and bus driver ensued, and the driver was punched in the face, causing a laceration on his forehead. The subject also struck the left side of the face of a bus monitor who attempted to block the subject from gaining access to the student. Deputies detained the subject—who they learned was a juvenile—and discovered that he and the student were siblings. The subject was acting as guardian of his sister, and had recently been dealing with a number of serious family issues. A criminal complaint for two counts of assault and battery were submitted to Juvenile Detention Services, which did not advise detention.

Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Homicide

Stafford, VA. A suspect is in custody for shooting and killing his brother in the area of Holly Drive in Stafford County.

On February 6, 2018 at approximately 8:58 p.m., deputies responded to the area of Holly Drive after the Roanoke Police Department notified the Stafford Sheriff’s Office that they had a subject in custody who had admitted to shooting and killing his brother in Stafford.

Stafford detectives said an unknown dispute occurred between the suspect, William Jackson Veronee, 21, of Aiken, South Carolina, and the victim, Christopher Andrew Veronee, 33, of Stafford. Detectives believe the suspect shot and killed his brother on Monday afternoon.

Following the homicide, the suspect stole his brother’s vehicle, which broke down while traveling in the area of Roanoke, Virginia. Police were notified of a suspicious subject by staff at a cold weather shelter. The subject spoke with responding officers, and was then taken into custody by Roanoke Police.

The Stafford Sheriff’s Office was notified and deputies then located the deceased victim at his home on Holly Drive. The stolen vehicle was recovered by Roanoke Police.

The suspect has been charged with second degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. He is currently being held in the Roanoke City Jail.

The incident is still under investigation by the Stafford Sheriff’s Office.


Disturbance at Local Hotel Leads to Drug Arrest

Stafford, VA. Deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect on Monday on drug charges following a reported disturbance at the Motel 6 on Warrenton Road.

On February 12, 2018 at approximately 1:30 a.m., Deputy K.J. Simpson responded to a disturbance at Motel 6. The caller advised that one of the motel guests was yelling and stomping in his room. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the guest who was identified as Elmer Joseph Cook, Jr., 43, of Remington, Virginia.

While speaking with deputies, the suspect’s behavior was erratic. Cook was sweating profusely and continually dousing himself with water. In addition, deputies observed in plain view evidence of drug use in the room. The suspect was then taken into custody.

Cook was incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of controlled paraphernalia.


Suspects Arrested Following Stafford Robbery and Drug Investigation

Stafford, VA. Four suspects, including a juvenile, have been arrested by deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office for their involvement in a robbery following a drug-related incident where shots were fired.

During a narcotics investigation, the Stafford Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit learned of a robbery that occurred at a residence on Kings Crest Drive in January 2018. A drug-related incident at the residence led to an altercation and shots were fired. Nobody was injured during the incident.

Two suspects, a juvenile and a male later identified as Raekwon Qudir Allen, 20, of Stafford, stole a large amount of cash from the victim. They left the residence and fled in a vehicle waiting for them.

Allen and the driver of the vehicle, Austin Allen Hall, 21, of Stafford, were later taken in custody by Stafford deputies and incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail on charges of assault and battery, robbery, conspiracy, contributing the delinquency of a minor, and several firearm-related charges.

A passenger in the vehicle, Kristy Marie Thompson, 20, of Stafford was also taken into custody and incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail on charges of conspiracy and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The juvenile was detained on charges of robbery and use or display of a firearm.

Stafford Sheriff’s Office Investigating Threat at Gayle Middle School

Stafford, VA. The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating reports of an alleged weapon on school property at Gayle Middle School. A student observed another student with what appeared to be a handgun in a backpack. The child notified the principal who in turn reported the incident to the School Resource Officer who was on site. The School Resource Officer identified the student with the weapon by utilizing school surveillance video. The student was removed from class and his locker was subsequently searched. An airsoft gun was located in his backpack. The investigation continues and appropriate charges will be filed through Juvenile Intake. The lockdown of the school was lifted and the school has returned to normal operations.

Suspect Arrested in Stafford on Drug Distribution Charges

Stafford, VA. Deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect last week on drug distribution charges.

On February 15, 2018, at approximately 6:34 p.m., Deputy Brandon Boyle conducted a traffic stop in the area of Warrenton Road and South Gateway Drive after observing the driver of a vehicle fail to use the left turn signal. The deputy identified the driver as Toney Emanuel Smith, 29, of Fredericksburg.

The deputy immediately detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle subsequent to the suspect’s arrest revealed narcotics and a significant amount of cash. Additional narcotics were discovered hidden on the suspect’s person during a search at the jail.

Smith was incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail on two charges of intent to distribute a controlled substance, two charges of possessing a chemical compound in jail, and possession of marijuana.

The Special Investigations Unit later obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s hotel room at the Clarion Inn on Warrenton Road. The search yielded a large quantity of heroin and cocaine.

Smith was served three additional felony warrants for intent to distribute heroin, cocaine, and marijuana.


Suspect Arrested in Stafford Shooting Incident

Stafford, VA. Deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office arrested a female suspect on Saturday for shooting her husband in the hand.

On February 24, 2018, at approximately 4:45 a.m., deputies responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Jefferson Davis Highway and George Mason Road. Upon arrival, deputies observed the female suspect crying and walking down the middle of Jefferson Davis Highway.

Deputies instructed the suspect to move to the side of the road, but she stayed in the middle and kept walking. When deputies approached the suspect, they detected the odor of alcohol and observed blood on her jacket. She had slurred speech and repeatedly said, “I shot him in the hand.”

Deputies then located the victim who had a gunshot wound to his right hand. The victim told deputies that the suspect, identified as Jackie Lyn Miller, 32, of Stafford, was intoxicated and shot him following an argument. He was treated by medical personnel and transported to Mary Washington Hospital.

Miller was taken into custody and incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail with no bond. She is charged with aggravated malicious wounding, reckless handling of a firearm, and shooting near an occupied dwelling.


Charges Pending Following Ambulance, Tanker Truck Crash in Stafford

Stafford, VA. The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit responded to an accident this morning involving a private ambulance and a tanker truck in the southern end of Stafford County. On February 27, 2018, at approximately 7:00 a.m., the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit responded to an accident in the area of Warrenton Road and Hartwood Road. Upon arrival, deputies observed a private ambulance that was significantly damaged and a tanker truck that was determined to be carrying cranberry juice. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. A patient and three crew members were in the ambulance at the time of the crash. All four individuals were transported to Mary Washington Hospital. Their condition is known, but not being released at this time. The driver of the tanker truck was not injured. All of U.S. 17 was closed while emergency crews responded to the scene, which resulted in significant traffic delays during the morning commute. All lanes were reopened and the scene cleared by 11:00 a.m. A full reconstruction of the accident was completed on the scene by the Traffic Safety Unit, and charges are pending.

Stafford Road Rage Incident Results in Firearms Charges

Stafford, VA. Deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office arrested two suspects early on Monday morning for brandishing firearms during a road rage incident on Jefferson Davis Highway.

On March 5, 2018 at approximately 12:48 a.m., Deputy A.T. Leckemby responded to a road rage incident on southbound Jefferson Davis Highway. Upon arrival at the Wawa located at 72 Austin Park Drive, deputies learned the victims were driving east on Garrisonville Road when a dark colored vehicle pulled up next to them. The occupants of the vehicle began yelling at them.

On Jefferson Davis Highway in the area of Comfort Inn and Suites, the suspects’ vehicle again approached the victims’ vehicle and the victims observed one of the passengers brandishing a firearm. The suspect’s vehicle pulled in front of the victims’ vehicle with the driver’s side facing northbound. One of the passengers exited the vehicle and punched one of the victims in the face approximately five times.

Shortly after the incident, Deputy G. Motley conducted a felony stop of the suspects’ vehicle at Cambridge Street and Truslow Road. Two firearms matching the description provided by the victims were located in the vehicle. Deputies learned neither suspects had concealed weapons permits.

The suspects were identified as Yovanny Abreu, 25, of Stafford, and Brent Amed Jones, 27, of Ruther Glen. They were incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail on secured bonds. Jones is charged with brandishing a firearm, concealed carry, and assault. Abreu is charged with brandishing a firearm, concealed carry, reckless driving, and stopping on a highway where dangerous.

Another passenger in the vehicle, Cody Allen Lillard, 23, of Stafford County, was charged with public intoxication. He was incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail until no longer impaired.

The incident is still under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

Stafford Sheriff’s Office Creates School Safety Task Force

Stafford, VA. Stafford County Sheriff David P. Decatur announced this morning the creation of the Stafford County School Safety Task Force to enhance school security in the wake of an uptick of threats targeting schools nationwide. The Task Force will be comprised of subject matter experts representing several public safety fields as well as members of county school administration. The goal of the task force is to immediately develop and implement actionable measures to reduce threats, mitigate the risk of an attack or active shooter scenario in our schools, and ensure the community feels safe and protected. “The Stafford County School Safety Task Force is just one of many measures the Sheriff’s Office intends to implement in the near future to curb threats to our schools and ensure the community feels safe and protected,” Sheriff Decatur said. “We do not want school safety to become a check-the-box exercise. By creating this new team, we hope to enhance security at our schools and build a robust channel of communication between law enforcement and school staff, teachers, parents and students.” In addition, in the wake of a series of threats and attacks targeting schools across the nation and here in Stafford, the Sheriff’s Office will continue to maintain extra security and law enforcement presence at all schools in the county through the remainder of the school year.

Stafford County Reckless Driving Incident Results in Pursuit

Stafford, VA. Deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office arrested a male suspect on Sunday after an attempted traffic stop for reckless driving resulted in a pursuit by vehicle and a foot chase.

On March 11, 2018 at approximately 4:57 p.m., 1st Sgt. George Hernandez observed a vehicle repeatedly crossing the double yellow lines while traveling on Richards Ferry Road. The first sergeant attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspect vehicle fled at a high rate of speed after turning on to Warrenton Road.

A short pursuit ensued until 1st Sgt. Hernandez discontinued the chase after losing sight of the vehicle in the area of Hartwood Road and Warrenton Road.

Shortly thereafter, Deputy J.A. Mangan observed the suspect vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of Stefaniga Road and Poplar Road. The deputy activated his emergency equipment and began to pursue the suspect vehicle. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle continued to travel at a high rate of speed and frequently crossed the double yellow lines.

In the area of Abel Drive and Kellogg Mill Road, the deputy observed the suspect fleeing on foot away from the vehicle, which had crashed into a tree. The vehicle featured extensive damage and was facing the wrong direction of traffic. The deputy chased the suspect on foot, and repeatedly yelled commands to stop. The suspect ignored the deputy’s commands.

Deputies eventually caught the suspect and took him into custody. Deputies contacted the owner of the suspect vehicle who advised that the suspect was not authorized to use the vehicle.

Matthew Gregory Browning, 30, of Stafford, was incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. He is charged with reckless driving, driving under the influence, driving without a driver’s license, eluding police, obstruction of justice, destruction of property, and resisting arrest.



Stafford Sheriff’s Office Arrests Suspect in Walmart Area Robbery

Stafford, VA. Deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect on Thursday for a robbery outside of a Walmart located in the southern end of the county.

On March 15, 2018 at approximately 3:15 p.m., Deputy Nathan Potter responded to a reported robbery at the Walmart located at 11 Village Parkway. The victim—a Walmart employee—told the deputy that a female with a scarf concealing her face approached her as she was attempting to leave work and head home.

The suspect was holding a box cutter and demanded that the victim hand over her purse. The victim gave the suspect a small amount of cash and the suspect then left the area.

The deputy broadcast a “Be On the Lookout” for the suspect and, shortly thereafter, other Stafford deputies located her and took her into custody. In addition, surveillance video reviewed by deputies with the Special Problems Unit corroborated the victim’s story.

Amanda Jo Colavito, 38, of Fredericksburg, was incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. She is charged with robbery and wearing a mask in public.


Attempted Traffic Stop in Stafford Results in Pursuit of Stolen Vehicle

Stafford, VA. Deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect on Friday for leading deputies on a pursuit following an attempted traffic stop on southbound Warrenton Road.

On March 16, 2018 at approximately 10:18 p.m., Deputy J.J. Bryan initiated a traffic stop in the area of Warrenton Road and Heartfields Lane after observing a vehicle with an expired registration pull out of Mr. B’s Exxon Station. The driver of the vehicle pulled over to the right side of the road, but never put his vehicle in park. The suspect then began moving his vehicle back onto Warrenton Road and accelerated at a high rate of speed. The tag was run through the DMV and returned as stolen from Prince William County.

A pursuit ensued on southbound Warrenton Road. The suspect vehicle weaved in and out of traffic, and went through a red light at the intersection of Butler Road and Jefferson Davis Highway. The pursuit was terminated on Butler Road after the deputy lost sight of the suspect vehicle.

Shortly thereafter, deputies began canvassing the area for the suspect and stolen vehicle. Deputy Justin Forman located a suspicious male in the area of Camden Drive and Lancaster Street. The male told the deputy his driver’s license was suspended so he was identified by his social security number as Jeffrey Antonio Turcios, 19, of Dumfries. He told the deputy he was coming from his grandmother’s house and walking to the Exxon to purchase a drink.

The deputy advised the suspect that he was searching for a stolen vehicle and requested that the suspect take a seat in his car so he could return him to his grandmother’s house. The deputy made contact with the suspect’s sister who advised that their grandmother does not live in Virginia.

Another deputy viewed surveillance video from Mr. B’s Exxon that revealed that Turcios was the driver of the stolen vehicle. The suspect was then taken into custody. The vehicle was located by Sgt. J.L. Rakoczy on Glasgow Street in the area where the suspect was located. The owner of the vehicle was notified.

Turcios was incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a secured bond. He is charged with improper lane change, failure to obey a traffic signal, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, felony eluding, and possession of stolen property.


Stafford Sheriff's Office Searching for Missing Endangered Female

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a missing endangered female in the area of Wind Ridge Drive. We are searching for Ashley Gilmore, a 31-year-old white female, 5’4”, 115 lbs, long red hair, and blue eyes. She is wearing a burgundy jacket, black Adidas workout pants and black boots. Suspect Arrested in NY after Stealing $60K in Tools from Stafford Business

Stafford, VA. A man wanted out of Stafford County for stealing $60,000 worth of tools and a vehicle was arrested earlier this month in New York.

On March 2, 2018, Deputy Randall Pinkard responded to a call regarding a larceny of tools from a locked box located at Fredericksburg Public Auto Auction on Warrenton Road. The victim told the deputy that a man named Harry Herman Lamb, 53, had been sleeping in the room connected to the garage where the tools were stolen.

In examining the tool box, the deputy observed signs that it had been pried open. The victim indicated that approximately $60,000 worth of tools had been stolen.

Stafford Detective Timothy Covington later learned from New York State Police that Lamb had been arrested after fleeing from police and crashing the vehicle he was driving. Stafford Deputy Justin Forman discovered that the vehicle Lamb crashed had been stolen from the auto auction. The victim told the deputy that Lamb had access to the dealer tags and keys when he was staying at the business.

New York State Police investigators advised the Sheriff’s Office that no tools were recovered from the vehicle. Lamb later confessed to Detective Covington that he stole the tools and the vehicle from the auto auction. He also told Detective Covington that he sold the tools at truck stops along the way to New York.

Lamb was charged in Stafford with grand larceny and petit larceny. In New York, he was charged with possession of stolen property, eluding, and several other charges. He was incarcerated at Madison County Jail in Wampsville, New York following his arrest.


Stafford Sheriff's Office Searching for Missing Endangered Male

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is currently searching for a missing endangered male. Daniel Thomas Castle is a 25-year-old white male with hazel eyes, brown hair, 185 lbs, and 5'11". He is driving a Chevy Spark 2013, blue in color, and with four doors. The vehicle tag is PAELZR through VA. He was last seen 3/26/2018. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Castle is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office immediately at 540-658-4400.
