A 19-year-old King George man was charged with DUI after crashing early Saturday morning.

On October 28th at approximately 2:03 a.m. Deputy D.S. Jett was traveling on Warrenton Road near Heartfields Lane. During his travel, he observed a vehicle slightly off the road. As Deputy Jett approached, he discovered the vehicle had struck a guardrail and a telephone pole, snapping the pole in half.

Deputy Jett made contact with the driver who advised he was just “really tired” which caused him to crash. Considering it was not Deputy Jett’s first day on the job, he knew the fact the driver was intoxicated would be more likely why he crashed. When Deputy Jett inquired how much he had to drink, the driver advised “not too much”. That would be determined to be false.

Within the vehicle was a case of beer, and the driver later admitted to consuming four beers at a Halloween party. He was charged with driving under the influence, driving after illegally consuming alcohol, reckless driving, and underage possession of alcohol. Having “not too much” would earn the driver to be held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,500 secure bond.
