Fleeing Wanted Individual Caught

A wanted Stafford man attempted to run and hide, but discovered both would not help him escape from deputies.

On September 24th at approximately 4:10 p.m. Sergeant B.U. Demirci and Deputy B.W. Gildea were at the Latin Market, located at 367 Warrenton Road, when they observed someone they knew to be wanted. The 21-year-old suspect was wanted for two outstanding capias charges. When the two deputies attempted to converse with the suspect, he quickly began fleeing, resulting in a foot pursuit.

The suspect fled across Short Street and through the Motel 6 parking lot where he scaled a barbed wire fence. Instead of continuing a foot pursuit, deputies elected to establish a perimeter and bide their time. It wouldn’t take long for members of the community to call in regarding a suspicious person attempting to hide near their residence.

Due to the help from community members, deputies were able to narrow their search to a wooded area near Rivers Edge Drive. Deputy Gildea, Deputy D.J. Ferrell, Deputy C.R. Newman, Deputy F.A. Martinez, and his K-9 partner, Mija, were able to locate him and take him into custody without further incident. The suspect was discovered to have a concealed knife on him as well.

The suspect was charged with fleeing law enforcement, obstruction of justice, and carrying a concealed weapon. He was also served on his outstanding warrants. He was held without bond at Rappahannock Regional Jail.
